Cator, Ruma & Associates was selected to provide mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services for the new University of Wyoming Science Initiative building. The facility brings together the Center for Advanced Scientific Imaging (CASI), the Center for Integrative Biological Research (CIBR) and Active Learning Classrooms (ALC). CASI supports nanomolecular materials research, with various imaging spaces. CIBR includes laboratory spaces (including BSL-2 laboratories), office space, and controlled environments for animal and plant research. ALC will provide classroom spaces for biology, chemistry, and physics classes. These spaces will allow for interactive learning and breakout discussions amongst smaller groups.

Mechanical systems provided include supply air systems, exhaust air systems, lab room pressurization systems, cooling systems, process cooling systems, heating systems, energy recovery systems, plumbing systems, and fire protection systems.

Electrical systems provided include primary service, secondary distribution, emergency distribution, general power, lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm, and lightning protection systems.

Energy use and conservation was a factor in selection of each system.
