Cator, Ruma & Associates was selected to provide the Mechanical and Electrical design for the renovation of an existing building to the Kaiser Permanente Regional Reference Lab. The renovation of the existing auto parts warehouse to the new Kaiser Stapleton Support Services (SSS) included renovating the existing 100,000 SF building to accommodate Kaiser Regional Laboratory and associated administrative spaces. 

Pathology and lab support services as well as the regional hematology and chemistry, molecular, histology, microbiology, and cytology reference labs comprise the bulk of the building occupancy. 

The office portion of the project was built-out as a first phase to move the lab administrators prior to the lab being completed. In addition to the office space, the project included a data center for networking, warehouse, and a high-density file storage system. 

Separate mechanical systems were design for the office and laboratory space to allow the offices to be shut down during unoccupied times to save energy.

The Reference Lab serves as the central clinical lab for all of Kaiser’s metro area medical office facilities.
