Cator, Ruma & Associates provided mechanical engineering design for Pavilion M at Denver Health and Hospital Authority’s campus. The new 75,000-square-foot (SF) four-story building is comprised of the following spaces: The first floor houses a full-service dialysis center and a full-service stand-alone ambulatory surgery and GI Center with associated imaging services. Pre- and post-op rooms and various clinical exam/treatment rooms are located on the second floor. The third floor is primarily office and meeting space for hospital staff. The adolescent psychiatric inpatient unit and associated support staff offices are located on the fourth floor. This unit includes inpatient rooms, activity areas, therapy rooms, an outdoor exercise area, and nursing offices.
Notable features on this project included a high level of coordination for medical equipment and inpatient living areas. Since this building has many of the same program functions as a full-service hospital, it has essentially the same type of equipment as well. This project was completed within a tight schedule and budget, and was described by all participants as a successful model for a program-driven, complicated project.
The owner achieved the budgetary and schedule control that they required. Cator, Ruma & Associates provided the level of service that protected the interests of the owner while still adhering to the cost and schedule commitments of the constructors. As Healthcare Design professionals, Cator, Ruma & Associates was able to look out for the interests of Denver Health and Hospital Authority and help all stakeholders make well informed decisions regarding the direction of the design.
