Cator, Ruma & Associates provided the mechanical, electrical, and technology design and contract administration for the addition and renovation of Genoa-Hugo School. The project was unique in that the construction needed to happen when the school was fully operational, which meant that the 30,000-square-foot addition had to be fully functional so students could occupy it while the renovation occurred. The new addition now houses administrative offices and classrooms.

The HVAC system included ground source heat pumps with condensing boilers and evaporative cooling. Lighting was replaced with a combination of high-efficiency fluorescents and a LED system, which allowed for higher-efficiency and better lighting control.
