University of Colorado – Memorial Center
Boulder, Colorado

Estimated Construction Cost:  $20,000,000

Cator, Ruma & Associates designed the mechanical, electrical, fire protection and fire alarm systems for the new 50,000 SF Addition and renovation of the existing Student Center building as a Sub-Consultant.

The centerpiece of the Addition is a 4-story loggia which is the main entrance to the building, and provides excellent daylighting opportunities for much of the building interior. The building consists of Offices, Kitchen, Tenant Food Court Areas, full Student Dining Area, Conference Space and as a pre-function area for the Center Ballrooms. One of the major challenges was to design the air distribution system to fit within ceiling spaces on two (2) of the floors which were 10 feet floor-to-floor.

This project received a LEEDTM Silver rating* on June 19, 2006 with 41 points.

  • The Center is the first LEEDTM certified building on the University of Colorado Boulder campus.

  • This building was certified under version 2.0

  • More than 275 tons of sandstone and clay tile were salvaged and reused.

  • More than 935 tons of material was reclaimed or recycled.

* This project became registered after the building was turned over to the Owner.
