Projects

Colorado State University –
Chem./Bio. Instructional Laboratory

Fort Collins, Colorado

Estimated Construction Cost:  $15,900,000

Cator, Ruma & Associates was selected as a Sub-Consultant to design the mechanical and electrical systems and will be providing the construction administration for the project.  The Chemistry and Biological Sciences - Instructional Laboratories Building is a 77,595 square foot five-level facility containing classroom, preparation, computer and instructional laboratory spaces.  The Facility also contains 3,200 square foot first level auditorium space with seating for 290 students.  The West end of the Instructional Laboratories building is connected to the existing Chemistry Building, and the East end is connected to the existing Anatomy/Zoology Building.

Laboratory services include deionized water, compressed air, vacuum and natural gas.  Energy recovery is accomplished by implementing a run-around glycol loop between the exhaust air and the supply air systems.  Another form of energy conservation is used for five (5) specific laboratories, each requiring over 10,000 cfm of exhaust due to the concentration of fume hoods.  These labs are provided with dual-duct ventilation systems, which allows unconditioned outside air to be used through much of the year, and avoids reheating air that was previously cooled.
