Exempla St. Joseph Hospital - Electrical Distribution Upgrade
Denver, Colorado

Estimated Construction Cost:  $21,000,000

Cator, Ruma & Associates is designing the electrical systems and providing construction administration as a Sub-Consultant on this project. The Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital is undergoing a ten-phase electrical distribution upgrade project with a completion date of 2006. Phases one through five have been completed. This project was undertaken to centralize the electrical systems, replace equipment that had reached its life expectancy, increase reliability of systems, allow proper system maintenance, and increase capacity to meet present/future technology demands and future Hospital expansions.  The end result will be modern electrical distribution and emergency generator systems. Challenges included coordinating required outages with user groups in the Hospital, maintaining existing equipment while transitioning to new equipment, and locating space for new equipment.

The Design Team was recently honored with the prestigious Vista Team Award for Infrastructure projects. The Team accepted the Award from the American Society of Healthcare Engineering of the American Hospital Association during the Society’s 2004 International Conference and Exhibition on Health Facility Planning, Design and Construction held in Tampa, Florida. Over 5,000 Healthcare Professionals attended the Conference.
