University of Denver - Frank H. Ricketson Jr. Law Building

Cator, Ruma & Associates
was the Mechanical Engineer of Record on the Denver University Law Building. The
200,000 sq. ft. Law Building consists of Classrooms, Offices, Courtrooms,
Conferencing Rooms and a large library.
The building is LEEDTM
Certified. The mechanical and electrical systems are designed with the goal of
consuming 30% less energy than ASHRAE Standard 90.1 (Energy Standard for
New Buildings). The design incorporates daylighting controls, energy
efficient HVAC systems and high performance glazing which contribute to the
sustainable design. State-of-the-art controls and natural ventilation are
used. Steam and chilled water are provided from the Campus Central Utility
Plant. An innovative use of ground water for
irrigation purposes has been incorporated in the design. Water efficient
plumbing fixtures are being used throughout.
The building
includes an underground parking garage and an adjoining parking structure. The
ramp leading into the underground structure has an integral snow melting system.

Gold rating was received for the School of
Law on June 12, 2005 with 39 points.

The building
is the first law school in the nation to be LEEDTM certified.

The School
was built within 300 meters of a future light-rail station.

Ground water
will be captured and used for landscaping.

A carbon
dioxide monitoring system was installed in the parking garage.

This building
was certified under version 2.0.
